APologise? For what? or What is apologetics?
Christian apologetics focuses on explaining and defending the Christian faith. It is closely linked in with evangelism, and often concerned with addressing intellectual objections which may be preventing people from accepting Christ as Saviour.
The term apologetics itself is derived from the Greek word 'apologia' - literally to give a defence to the charges brought. |
1 Peter 3: 15 (NIV)
“...in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect...” |
In an environment in which the Christian faith is under attack from postmodernism, pluralism and the "New Atheism", amongst other things, it is as important now as it ever has been for Christians to be ready and prepared to explain the reasons for their hope in the person and promises of God.
